We are a constituent member of the
Baptist family of
Churches in Queensland and are a part of the wider body of Baptists
throughout Australia and throughout the world.
Although we are a constituent member of the Baptist
Union of Queensland, we, like other Baptist Churches, are autonomous in
our government. We receive advice and support by being a part of the
Baptist family of Churches. We also give financial support to the wider
Baptist family through the Baptist Union of Queensland. We believe that
Jesus Christ is head of the Church (Ephesians 5:23, Colossians 1:18)
and therefore submit ourselves to the precepts and principles found in
his Word.
The ministry of this church began in 1967. We moved to
this site in Archer Street in 1995, and completed construction on our
present facilities in 1998.
Our desire as a church is to help people draw closer to
the Lord Jesus Christ and get to know God ' s plan for their lives. If
we can encourage you in any way, feel free to make contact with either
a pastor, elder or a ministry leader. Our administrator is also a very
helpful resource.
The Ministry Centre is not only used for worship on
Sunday. During the week several of the church ' s organisations meet
both during the day and in the evening. Details of many of these groups
are in this wallet and also in the weekly bulletin, which you might
have picked up at a Sunday service. In addition, Trinity College uses
the Ministry Centre for assembly and music. With the stage facility,
and seating capacity of 500, we also have community and Christian
Churches events here.
If we can be of any help to you, please feel free to
phone a pastor, elder or office staff and we will do our best to help
you.

Our
Vision

To be the family of God in our
community
by providing a Christ centered environment where families as a whole,
family
members as individuals, and those without family ties are brought into
relationship
with, and to maturity in Christ.
Gladstone Baptist
Church Vision Statement:
Being
the family of God;
Bringing others into the family of God.
Rationale: The
family
is under attack. Loneliness, isolation and individualism are symptoms
of a
broken relationship with God and broken relationships with others. Our
passion
is to serve as a healing agent to these broken relationships by
exercising our
God ordained mandate to be ministers of reconciliation. We seek to
reconcile
men, women and children to God (Romans 5:11), and to each other (2
Corinthians
5:20). We are committed to bringing people into maturity in Christ and
strengthening relationships between believers.
We believe that weak famililes make
weak
churches and that strong famililes make strong churches. We also
understand
that there are many for whom the concept of family is either foreign or
non
existent. We seek to exemplify the attribute of a healthy family in
order to be
a healing community to these people.
We believe that the family is a God
ordained institution
(Genesis 2:24), and we are committed to its nurture. We
believe that God calls
all people to be born again into His family.
How this will be achieved:
· Through
a strong Biblically based pulpit
ministry.
·
By providing a strong network of pastoral
care. This will happen informally as people are encouraged to love and
care for
each other (John 13:34), and it will happen formally in the setting of
growth
groups (Hebrews 10:25) . There is also a Pastoral Assistant responsible
for
Pastoral Care.
· By
taking seriously the Great Commission
of Jesus to His Church, "Go
therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptising them in the
name of
the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe
all that I
command you; and lo, I am with you always even to the end of the age."
(Matthew 28:19-20).
· By
providing age appropriate teaching and
discipleship at all levels and ages; that is, preschool, primary aged,
high
school age, young adults and adults.
· By
outreach to specific groups within the
community.

Our
Mission
Gladstone Baptist
Church Mission Statement:
Through our Worship and Witness, we
seek to reach people
with the good news of Jesus and bring them into maturity in the family
of God.
Our mission is two fold: as a church we
are to be a WITNESS to
Jesus Christ, pointing to Him as Saviour and Lord (Matthew 28:19). We
are to
lead men and women to repentance and faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, so
that
through REBIRTH they
might have eternal life.
As a Church we are also called to
WORSHIP God in Spirit and in Truth
(John 4:24). The chief end of man is to glorify God and to enjoy Him
forever –
so we worship. We worship God together as a community of Christians, so
that
through RENEWAL , we might
have abundant life.
Through our WITNESS, we seek to bring
REBIRTH to the unsaved; and through our WORSHIP, we seek to bring
RENEWAL to
each believer ' s life. Our passion is to reach people with the Good
News of
Jesus and bring them into maturity into God ' s family.

Our
Core Values
We are Committed to being people who …
Communicate Biblical Truths Faithfully and
Relevantly
We believe that the Bible is God’s inspired
word and that it is our highest authority for practical living and
growth. Therefore through teaching and preaching we aim to be
faithful to
Biblical truth while seeking to communicate in a way that engages and
can be
applied to the culture in which we live. (1 Timothy
3:16-17,
Hebrews 4:12, James 1:22-25)
Pray Persistently and Fervently
We believe that God desires us to pray
because it is the means of developing and maintaining our relationship
with
Him. Prayer is an expression of our corporate and
individual
reliance upon God. We know that He hears and answers our
prayers. Therefore, the ministries and activities of this
church
will be characterized by a reliance on prayer in their conception,
planning and
execution. (Matthew 18:19-20, Philippians 4:6-7, Colossians 4:2)
Follow the Holy Spirit
We believe that God indwells us through the
person of the Holy Spirit who applies the saving work of Jesus to our
lives. He teaches us, guides us, makes us more like Christ and
equips us
for God’s service. Therefore, we will listen to him,
submit our
wills to his leading and encourage the use and development of the gifts
he has
given to every believer. (John 16:12-15, Romans 8:9-10, Acts
1:8, John 16:8, Revelations 3:20)
Worship authentically
We believe that God is worthy of our praise
and worship because of who He is. Therefore we are
committed to
helping people to develop a lifestyle of worship on a corporate and an
individual level. We desire that every activity in every moment
of every day
become an act of worship. (Romans 12:1, John 4:23-24,
Matthew
22:37-38, Romans 6:13)
Grow Spiritually
We believe that God desires us to become
spiritually mature as we grow to be more like Christ.
Therefore we
seek to help all people to develop in their relationship with Jesus
Christ
through such things as prayer, personal devotions, small group bible
studies
and ministry to others. (Romans 8:28-29, Ephesians 4:11-15,
Colossians 3:1-17)
Introduce others to Jesus
We believe that God expects us is to
introduce people to Jesus because people everywhere matter to
God.
Therefore we are committed to the growth of Christ’s church both
locally and
throughout the world through mission activities and the presentation of
the
gospel. We desire our ministries to be outward focused, actively
seeking
ways to introduce more people to Christ. (Matthew 28:18-20, Luke
10:1-2, Luke
4:18-19, Romans 10:14-15)
Are a part of the Family of God
We believe that God calls us into
relationship with Himself, and we become members of His family when we
respond
to Him in faith. Therefore we are committed to love each
other and
in so doing to provide care, support, friendship and grace to each
member of
our family. We will respect each other’s differences and
accept the
responsibilities that being a family member brings. (Hebrews 2:10-11, 1
John
3:1-2, Galatians 5:13-14, Matthew 12:46-50)
Participate in ministry
We believe that the Holy Spirit has equipped
every believer with gifts, talents and abilities that He intends to be
used for
the furthering and sustaining of God’s kingdom. Therefore
we seek to
equip, release, mentor and support each person in the ministry God has
designed
specifically for them. (Romans 12:5-8, Ephesians 2:8-10,
Matthew
20:26-28, 1 Peter 4:10)
Lead like Christ
We believe that God uses Godly men and women
to lead others. Therefore as a church, we are committed to
develop,
support and follow Christ-like leaders. We recognise that
every
person has the ability to be a leader in some capacity and we seek to
help them
develop their leadership skills to act and serve for God’s glory.
(Titus 2:7–8,
2 Timothy 2:2, Hebrews 13:17)

Statement
of Faith

Our Statement of Faith is a summary of what we believe.
We believe these are essential beliefs which as Christians we need to
have unity about.
1. About God
God is the Creator and Ruler of the universe. He
has eternally existed in three personalities: the Father, the Son, and
the Holy Spirit. These three are co-equal and are one God.
Genesis 1:1,26,27, 3:22 ; Psalm 90:2; Matthew 28:19; 1
Peter 1:2; 2 Corinthians 13:14
2. About Jesus
Christ
Jesus Christ is the Son of God. He is co-equal
with the Father. Jesus lived a sinless human life and offered Himself
as the perfect sacrifice for the sins of all people by dying on a
cross. He arose from the dead after three days to demonstrate His power
over sin and death. He ascended to Heaven's glory and will return again
someday to earth to reign as King of Kings, and Lord of Lords.
Matthew 1:22, 23; Isaiah 9:6; John 1:1-5; 14:10 -30;
Hebrews 4:14,15; 1 Corinthians 15:3,4; Romans 1:3,4; Acts 1:9-11; 1
Timothy 6:14,15; Titus 2:13
3. About the Holy
Spirit
The Holy Spirit is co-equal with the Father and
the Son of God. He is present in the world to make men aware of their
need for Jesus Christ. He also lives in every Christian from the moment
of salvation. He provides the Christian with power for living,
understanding of spiritual truth, and guidance in doing what is right.
He give every believer a spiritual gift when they are saved. As
Christians, we seek to live under His control daily.
2 Corinthians 3:17; John 16:7-13, 14:16 ,17; Acts 1:8; 1
Corinthians 2:12 , 3:16 ; Ephesians 1:13; Galatians 5:25; Ephesians
5:18
4. About the Bible
The Bible is God's Word to us. It was written by
human authors, under the supernatural guidance of the Holy Spirit. It
is the supreme source of truth for Christian beliefs and living.
Because it is inspired by God, it is the truth without any mixture of
error.
2 Timothy 3:16; 2 Peter 1:20,21; 2 Timothy 1:13; Psalm
119:105,160, 12:6; Proverbs 30:5
5. About Human
Beings
People are made in the spiritual image of God, to
be like Him in character. People are the supreme object of God's
creation. Although every person has tremendous potential for good, all
of us are marred by an attitude of disobedience toward God called
“sin”. This attitude separates people from God and causes
many problems in life.
Genesis 1:27; Psalm 8:3-6; Isaiah 53:6a; Romans 3:23 ;
Isaiah 59:1, 2
6. About Salvation
Salvation is God's free gift to us but we must
accept it. We can never make up for our sin by self-improvement or good
works. Only by trusting in Jesus Christ as God's offer of forgiveness
can anyone be saved from sin's penalty. When we turn from our
self-ruled life and turn to Jesus in faith we are saved. Eternal life
begins the moment one receives Jesus Christ into his life by faith.
Romans 6:23; Ephesians 2:8,9; John 14:6, 1:12 ; Titus
3:5;
7. About Eternal
Security
Because God gives us eternal life through Jesus
Christ, the true believer is secure in that salvation for eternity. If
you have been genuinely saved, you cannot “lose” it.
Salvation is maintained by the grace and power of God, not by the
self-effort of the Christian. It is the grace and keeping power of God
that gives us this security.
Galatians 3:26; Romans 5:1 , John 10:29; 2 Timothy
1:12; Hebrews 7:25 , 10:10 ,14; 1 Peter 1:3-5
8. About Eternity
People were created to exist forever. We will
either exist eternally separated from God by sin, or eternally with God
through forgiveness and salvation. To be eternally separated from God
is Hell. To be eternally in union with Him is eternal life. Heaven and
Hell are real places of eternal existence.
John 3:16; John 14:17; Romans 6:23; Romans 8:17-18;
Revelation 20:15; 1 Cor. 2:7-9
